Forum: GratefulDead Subject: to be a DeadHead

Hi All
I was just sitting at my machine listening to 1987-08-20 - Park West Ski Resort, (God i love the Archive) and i had a thought. Can one be called a DeadHead if they have never had the joyous experience of seeing the Boys live.

I think i am. I have never seen them but i have several DVDs(regular releases and a few from the Traders Den). Also at last check i had enough shows to listen to 3 hrs a day for 7 months and not repeat a show. Also if a person *sees the light* long after Jerrys passing are they still a DeadHead???

This is not a frivolous question, i would really appreciate y'alls views

Peace:Skippy

As disappointing as it may be for you to never have seen a show, all it takes for admission to the club is a love for the music.

But, it does help if you buy a shirt, SYF lounge pants, Dancing Bear shoe laces, tie-dyed socks, GD ball cap, and those NOAT sandals with the SYF on the buckles. Also, make sure you've stickered your car as well. Only after making these purchases AND buying all their CD's do you get the VIP Club Card.

However, the stickers on the car thing is often a big TARGET for johny law (sometimes discretion really is the better part of valor)

you can only be a "real" head if you saw them between 66-72, if not then u must take part in an initiation ceremony conducted by one of the rare and rapidly deceasing shamans of the early years.

i have said it before, maybe not here, but elsewhere, I WAS BORN A DEADHEAD!!!!!

i only had the pleasure of seeing the boys live 4 times, but have logged years of listening and love since Aug of 95.

i am with the previous poster, it is all in the love of the music.

if the sweet sounds of jerry's guitar make your bones shake and heart shine, then you my friend are a deadhead, at least as far as this late comer is concerned.

Can you be considered a deadhead if you really deadicated yourself, but your dad drank the afterbirth when you were born ?

OK smi2les, i normally ignore your attempts at fishing, but come on man, wtf do my dads eating habits or my (or my mothers, depending on how you view things) afterbirth have to do with the grateful dead and the fans of the music?

if it is meaningless banter you wish to exchange, then fine, grab a microphone, go into your bathroom, look into the mirror, plug in and have at it.

peace to the rest (:/)

i won't let it get to me, but sometimes, if you ignore an abuse you condone it and i guess "his ludicrous comments" as you aptly described them, just pushed a little too hard or in the wrong direction, for me.

i thought i was reserved, i didnt tell him where to plug it in :)

peace to all

If a nerd goes to a star trek convention and finds himself at a scientology seminar by accident does it really matter?

Ever listen to a show and during one of Jerry's solos you get a shiver up your spine and find yourself sporting a smile that just wont quit? Congratulations, you're in.

"...i have even experienced moments of transendance that had nothing at all to do with chemicals or herb, just the tunes."

Sounds like a Head to me.

I had a post many, many moons ago where I referenced "getting it". If I recall correctly I argued that a Head is someone who "gets it", who feels the power of the music and the vibe of the community around the music, and that this has absolutely nothing to do with having seen them or not.

Hi Skippy - Be careful what you wish for!

Yes! You are a Deadhead! I won't tell the authorities.....

It's all about a love for the music. That's all it takes.

third and the motion is carried....

(and I know some people that caught many shows, say they are deadheads, but certainly seem(ed) to miss out on "it" and the greater ripples flowing from "it")
